DEGREE PLAN INFORMATION
In the following, the four-year degree plan is a suggested one. Students should meet with a UHD Academic Advisor to develop their own plan.
CAREERS
Graduates of this program are qualified to apply their knowledge in a number of structural design, construction, and other related positions. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for careers in a wide range of industries:
- city, county, and state public works departments
- state highway departments
- engineering and construction design firms
- chemical production
- fabrication companies
- geological testing firms
- sales
- material testing
- soil testing
- quality control
SAD PROGRAM EARNING OUTCOMES
Graduates of the SAD program will have:
- an ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills, and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;
- an ability to design systems, components, or processes meeting specified needs for broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;
- an ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in broadly-defined technical and nontechnical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature;
- an ability to conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments and to analyze and interpret the results to improve processes; and
- an ability to function effectively as a member as well as a leader on technical teams.
ADMISSIONS AND DECLARATION OF MAJOR
Students may declare a major in Structural Analysis/ Design Option in Engineering Technology if they meet the following criteria:
Admission and Declaration of Major
Continuing students at UHD must have
- a UHD GPA of 2.0 or higher,
- earned at least 24 college-level semester credit hours,
- have a C or better in MATH 1301 or (MATH 1302, MATH 1404, MATH 1505, MATH 2401,MATH 2402;or MATH 2403), and
- have credit or enrollment in ENG 1302;
Students transferring to UHD must have
- a GPA of 2.0 or higher,
- earned at least 24 college-level semester credit hours,
- have a C or better in MATH 1301;or ( MATH 1302,MATH 1404,MATH 1505,MATH 2401,MATH 2402 or MATH 2403), and
- have credit or enrollment in ENG 1302;
Freshmen who meet the Freshman Admissions criteria to UHD and the following criteria will be declared upon admission
- a GPA of 2.0 or higher,
- earned at least 24 college-level semester credit hours,
- have a C or better in MATH 1301;or (MATH 1302,MATH 1404,MATH 1505,MATH 2401,MATH 2402 or MATH 2403), and have credit or enrollment in ENG 1302;
SUGGESTED MINORS
- Bioinformatics
- Computer Science 20 hours minimum
- Engineering Technology 20 hours minimum
