The B.S.E.T. Structural Analysis/ Design Option in Engineering Technology degree program at the University of Houston-Downtown is a distinctive program in the College of Sciences and Technology. The focus of the program is the application of computer technology, modern materials and construction techniques to the overall design of structures, which includes project planning, cost estimates, and management of the project.

DEGREE PLAN INFORMATION

In the following, the four-year degree plan is a suggested one.  Students should meet with a UHD Academic Advisor to develop their own plan.

CAREERS

Graduates of this program are qualified to apply their knowledge in a number of structural design, construction, and other related positions. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for careers in a wide range of industries:

  • city, county, and state public works departments
  • state highway departments
  • engineering and construction design firms
  • chemical production
  • fabrication companies
  • geological testing firms
  • sales
  • material testing
  • soil testing
  • quality control

SAD PROGRAM EARNING OUTCOMES

Graduates of the SAD program will have:

  1. an ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills, and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;
  2. an ability to design systems, components, or processes meeting specified needs for broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;
  3. an ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in broadly-defined technical and nontechnical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature;
  4. an ability to conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments and to analyze and interpret the results to improve processes; and
  5. an ability to function effectively as a member as well as a leader on technical teams.
